  <이 글은 영어 수업 시간에 미국 필라델피아에서 있었던 ' 거리의 사람들'을 위한 '트레버 안식처' 이야기를 읽고 소감문을 써서 제출한 것으로 아래에 한글 번역문을 함께 실었습니다>

 

"Essay on Homeless People"

  This essay is a response to last class. It is the main concern of this essay to seek to help Homeless People.

   I first am impressed by the story of eleven-year-old Trever Ferrell and his parents, Frank and Janet Ferrell. They put an ad in a local paper asking for donation to help Philadelphia's homeless. The paper was interested in finding out what Trever and his parents were doing. Later that week, Trever was interviewed by the paper, and his story was published. After the publication of that story, many people sent donations for the homeless to Trever and his family.

 

   I think that Trever is a very kind and helpful boy. And his parents are helpful  also. Especially his parents' understanding to Trever what was doing is good model for me, because I have children older than Trever. As I read and discussed this story, I decided to help street people like Trever's family too. Formerly I had  that thought and I prepared to help them, but now I confirm that it is good ministry and pastoral care to help Homeless people.

  And I had many thoughts about Homeless people. There are many different Homeless people. For example someone could be a simple poor person. Someone have a mental problems.  Someone are a drunks. As like this, there are many different cases, man-woman, not wanting a job-lost job, young-old,  educational-non educational, having a family-no family, marriage-not marriage, etc. Accoring to that, many different aspects we must have many different helping and caring.

In Conclusion, I will pray for korean Homeless People and to promise to build a shelter for them. I want God bless those Homeless People and I will call that shelter for street people, "Homeless People Center".

                                 "홈리스피플센터에 관한 수필"

 

                                                                             서 철

 

   이 수필은 지난 수업 시간에 대한 응답이다. 이 수필의 중요 관심사는 '홈리스피풀'-가정을 잃어 버린 사람들-을 돕는 일을 찾는 것이다.

 

  우선 나는 열 한살 짜리 '트레버 훼렐'과 그의 부모인 프랭크 훼렐과 자넷 훼렐의 이야기를 듣고 아주 감동적인 인상을 받았다. 그들은 필라델피아의 가정을 일어버린 사람들을 도와주는 기부를 요청하는 광고를 지역 신문에 실었다. 그 신문은 트레버와 그의 부모들이 하고 있는 일이 무엇인지를 발견하는 관심을 가졌었다.  트레버는 그 신문에 의해 인터뷰를 했고, 많은 사람들이 가정을 잃어 버린 홈리스 피풀들을 위하여 트레버와 그의 부모들에게 기부품을 보냈다

 

  나는 트레버가 매우 친절하고 잘 돕는 소년이라고 생각한다. 그리고 그의 부모들 역시 친절하고 돕기를 잘 하는 사람이라고 생각한다. 특별히 트레버가 하고 있는 일에 대한 그의 부모들의 이해는 나에게 좋은 본보기였는데, 이는 나도 트레버 보다 나이 많은 아이들을 가진 부모였기 때문이다. 트레버에 대한 이 이야기를 읽었을 때에 , 나는 트레버의 가족들처럼 거리의 사람들을 돕기로 결정하였다. 이전에도 나는 가정이 없는 홈리스 피풀들을 돕겠다는 생각을 가지고 있었고 준비하였지만. 이제는 더욱 그런 홈리스 피풀을 돕는 것이 아주 좋은 목회 사역이고 돌봄이라고 확신한다.

 

  그리고 나는 가정이 없는 홈리스 피풀들에 대하여 많은 생각들을 했다. 여러 종류의 서로 다른 홈리스 피풀들이 있다. 예를 들면 어떤 사람들은 단순하게 가난한 사람인가 하면, 어떤 사람들은 정신적인 문제를 가지고 있고. 그리고 어떤 사람들은 알콜중독자이다. 이와 같이 다양한 경우들이 많다.  남자-여자, 직업을 원하지 않는 사람-직업을 잃어버린 사람, 젊은 사람-늙은 사람, 교육을 받은 사람-교욱을 받지 않은 사람, 가족이 있는 사람-가족이 없는 사람, 결혼한 사람-결혼하지 않은 사람,등등 다양한 경우가 있다. 그것에 따르면, 우리가 도와주고 돌보아 주어야 할 서로 다른 많은 양상들이 있는 것이다.

 

  결론적으로 나는 한국의 홈리스 피풀들을 위하여 기도할 것이며, 그들을 위하여 안식처를 세우겠다고 약속한다. 나는 하나님이 가정이 없는 그들 '홈리스피풀'들을 축복해주기를 원하며, 나는 거리의 사람들을 위한 그 안식처를 '홈리스시풀센터' 라고 부를 것이다.
